We were so pleased to have the after-school program at Merritt Bench for the last several weeks. Students got to experience Taekwondo, Dance, Outside and Gym Games, as well as many arts and crafts.
100's day is a favourite celebration here at Merritt Bench. Some of our buddy classes came in to help and have fun with Ms. Kane's, Ms. Jones', and Mr. Denton's classes. Students did 100 exercises (10 toe touches, 10 second planks, etc), they made 100s day necklaces, 100s day glasses, and 100's day hats and they stacked blocks and cups. They also had so much fun doing some spot dances for prizes. What a great day.
Mrs. Vandenbrink's class went on a walking field trip on February 11th. They walked down to Nicola Meadows to visit the residents there. Students brought Valentine Cards and Joshua played the piano for them. Their visit was very much appreciated and brought joy to everyone who participated. After that, the class walked down to the arena where they were able to watch a Centennial practice while eating their lunch. Their final stop was at the pool for a swim. A great day was had by all!
Ms. Kane, Mr. Denton and Ms. Jones' class are skating this month! Check out some pictures of our K/1 class in action at our first skate on January 9th, 2026.
A mini-golf PBL (Project Based Learning) activity occurred in Mr. Denton's class. Students designed and built a mini-golf course and applied concepts from various subjects such as science, math and language arts. The culminating activity was to create a miniature mini-golf hole in partners and then host a mini-golf tournament for the grade 4/5 and 6/7 classes. What a fun and creative way to showcase their work. Well done grade 2/3's.
Mr. Denton's class did a fun Lego STEAM challenge on November 13th, 2025. Their task was to pull a 'disaster' (challenge) card and complete the challenge! Examples included "Build a robot to do a chore for you, like cut wood or gather food"; or "Zombie invasion!! Find a way to protect yourself," or "You have no power! Build something to generate electricity." This challenge took creativity and teamwork! Well done, Grade 2's and 3's!
Mr. Schmid's class was learning about velocity and how it affects the size of a crater on the moon! What a fun and exciting lesson for their science class.
